Two of the primary functions of any drilling fluid are hole cleaning and cuttings suspension. The introduction of shear-thinning polysaccharide gums was one of the most important technological innovations in the development of water-based muds. Using the appropriate quality gums for the right application allows proper engineering of drilling fluid, cement and spacer properties to ensure optimal flow rates and minimum ECDs for drilling and displacements. OS RHEO GUM is much more thermally stable and calcium tolerant and has many other benefits compared to xanthans. Choose the right gum for the right application.

OS RHEO GUM is a premium, shear-thinning welan gum biopolymer.
OS RHEO GUM is a high molecular weight polysaccharide produced by biofermentation of sugars.

pH of 1% Solution – 6.0 – 8.0
Loss on Drying – 13% max.
Particle Size – 100% through 28 mesh (600 micron), 95% min through 42 mesh (355 micron).

Advantages
OS RHEO GUM has excellent stability and viscosity retention at temperatures up to 150°C.
OS RHEO GUM is calcium ion tolerant even at high pH levels.
Application
OS RHEO GUM biopolymer is used as a shear-thinning viscosifier and suspending agent for water base mud systems when temperatures and/or calcium ion concentrations exceed the range for xanthan products.
OS RHEO GUM Is ideal for use in cement spacers when calcium and pH tolerance are essential for ensuring proper separation and displacement.
OS RHEO GUM can also be use in cements as an anti-settling additive and to control free water.
Normal concentrations are 0.5 – 2.0 ppb (1.5 – 6.0 kg/m3)
OS RHEO GUM is also used in workover or completion operations either on its own or in combination with HEC to build up viscous pills with high suspension properties. OS RHEO GUM is highly acid-soluble.
