OS PAC R & L - Polyanionic Cellulose (High-Purity)
Polyanionic Cellulose (PAC)
Polyanionic cellulose is a core additive in many water based mud systems due to its functionality, stability and economy. PACs give good fluid loss control by tightening filter cakes, help solids separation by encapsulation of cuttings and contribute to hole cleaning. PAC performance is wholly dependent on its molecular weight, purity and the degree and regularity of the substitution along the cellulose backbone. PAC selection is fundamental to the overall performance of many water based mud systems.
Product Information
OS PAC R and L are high and low molecular weight pure grade polyanionic cellulose polymers both exceeding API 13a standards. OS PAC R and L can be used in the field up to 150oC / 300oF in fresh, seawater and saturated salt salinities. OS PAC R and L are resistant to bacterial attack.
Typical Physical Properties
Appearance – Free flowing off-white powder
Purity – 97% min
Moisture Content – 10% max
Apparent Viscosity – 50 cps min (R), 40 cps max (L)
Fluid Filtrate – 26 ml max (R), 16 ml max (L)
Advantages
OS PAC R is a long chain, high molecular weight polymer exhibiting excellent fluid loss control and encapsulation in lower weight mud systems. The chain length and substitution regularity along the cellulose backbone of OS PAC R ensures the best possible performance.
OS PAC L is a lower molecular weight and shorter chain polymer that gives lower viscosity and is ideal for higher weight mud systems.
Application
OS PAC R and L are applied in concentrations of 0.5 – 7.5 kg/m3 for fluid loss control, encapsulation and viscosity depending on the mud weight and required API fluid loss.
Packaging
OS PAC R and L are packaged in 25 kg sacks.
